Barney Frank Nails the First Amendment Defense Act

The suspect "First Amendment Defense Act" (FADA) that is floating through Congress sustained its most damning criticism yesterday from former House Representative Barney Frank. You can read his full statement here; or watch some video. The GOP-sponsored bill attempts, with its ridiculous title, to legislate the protection of executives at any entity receiving taxpayer funding (a business, school, hospital, non-profit organization, etc.) to lawfully discriminate against LGBT people, and unmarried heterosexual couples, based solely on their personally held religious views. Yeah, you read that right. Legalized discrimination. Frank served in Congress (1981-2013) and is openly gay and married. He eviscerated the bill as ...

Here Is How We Can Send Republican Obstructionists Home For Good

This post is adapted from one I wrote last year, Purge 70% of US House of Representatives Incumbents Just Like They Did In 1816, one in a 40-part series regarding a secret cult, bankrolled by anti-government special interests, that operates hidden in plain site, controlling every branch of our government. This is NOT The Onion. As far-fetched as this 70-year siege sounds it also presents the key to rid us of the worst of the worst in the GOP, disgrace and repudiate Koch, et al, and rescue our democracy from the jaws of christian sharia. Background The name of this cult is Read More

The First Amendment Doesn’t Need Any Defense

The proposed First Amendment Defense Act is Congress's attempt to legalize LGBT discrimination. Aligning with faith groups to diminish the influence of religion in government was one of the chief strategies we developed while meeting with like-minded activists at the recent Netroots Nation and LGBT Netroots Connect. While this includes tactics such as direct contact with welcoming congregations, the nexus of this alignment right now centers on defeating the passage of the nefarious First Amendment Defense Act, the aim of which is "to prevent discriminatory treatment of any person on the basis of views held with respect to marriage." While the  Read More

#VoteOutTheReligiousRight

by Rachel Titiriga

#VoteOutTheReligiousRight Will you help #VoteOutTheReligious Right? As we fight for human rights, environment, and safe immigration, we have at hand a way to remove a large body of the political opposition. The underlying religious cults and alliances of the political religious right are, or should be, crystal clear most people by now. Their adherents no longer say or do anything to hide it, frequently demonstrating that their religious alliances supersede, actually nullify, all of the oaths of office they made upon entering public life. As Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia recently reminded us, “I think the main fight is to dissuade Americans from what ...

Cash and Carry Religion

by P.O. Arnas Flickr/creative commons

American Fundamentalists are succeeding in denying science and establishing punishing, religion-based legislation for one reason only. They have wisely aligned themselves with interests of corporate profiteers. The scheme is as old as time, and today's clearest example of this unholy marriage of religion and money is an organization called The Family (aka The Fellowship), something I have been writing about here for weeks. Like all cults of its ilk, The Family carries forth the dominionism doctrine, brought here by the Puritans. Dominionism is a political and religious philosophy calling for the end of the rule of law and the ...

#StopDominionism in Government Now!

Dominionism, particularly the virulent American Fundamentalist brand of Dominionism, is a political and religious philosophy that pervades the U.S. government and governments around the world. This philosophy calls for the end of rule by man to be replaced with (their version) of god's law.

Many of the GOP presidential candidates and incumbents in House and Senate up for re-election, for decades and in 2016, are dominionists. We (you and I) are responsible for allowing them to seep into our democracy and cause it to rot from within. Their religious commitment to an Ayn-Rand-styled nightmare theocracy takes precedence over all ...

Purge 70% of U.S. House of Representatives incumbents, just like they did in 1816

Flickr/creative commons

This coming 2016 election will mark the 200th anniversary of the largest single purge of incumbent U.S. Representatives, the "highest rate of turnover in any congressional election in American history." Back then, these congressmen were raising their pay while showing cruel indifference to starving, dying New Englanders, whose "Year Without A Summer" in 1816 (and subsequent bad years) practically led to the exodus now known as the State of Ohio. Disgust at the ballot box led to this, but how would we handle, engineer, a similar purge in 2016? What catastrophe or circumstance could cause this to happen in 18 months? ...

Op-Ed: The Inherent Corruption of US-Israel Relations

Photo by Michael Loadenthal Flickr/creative commons

A complete political perversion of diplomacy is upon us that further illustrates the underlying illogic that cements US-Israel relations. Speaker of the House, John Boehner, and the Israeli Ambassador to the US, Ron Dermer, conspired to invite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address both houses of Congress on March 3, just two weeks before the Israeli leader stands for re-election. An invitation of this magnitude never goes, shouldn't go, to a foreign leader hoping to make his bona fides for an upcoming election at home by addressing our Congress, in this case, allowing Netanyahu to undermine US leadership in nuclear ...

TODAY: Take Action for Net Neutrality

Flickr/creative commons

Last night, President Obama, in his State of the Union speech, made clear that net neutrality is important to everyone throughout the world. "I intend to protect a free and open internet, extend its reach to every classroom, and every community, and help folks build the fastest networks, so that the next generation of digital innovators and entrepreneurs have the platform to keep reshaping our world." We already know that if we don't continue to have unfettered and free access to this most important utility, the voices of so many people will be unnecessarily silenced, bringing us further under the ...
