Coining the Term, Free Love

genderdoesntexist_thumbnail

We reminded everyone yesterday that long before Hillary Clinton, it was trailblazing sexual freedom advocate Victoria Woodhull who was the first woman to run for the US Presidency. That was in 1872, nearly 50 years before women were allowed to vote in this country. Woodhull preached "free love" and was perhaps singularly responsible for coining the term. Almost 250 years ago, though, the terms, free love and sexual freedom, meant something very specific and vastly different that what they mean today. Woodhull's free love was about two things, only: A woman's right to choose a husband; and her right to divorce her husband. Sit in the space ...

Victoria Woodhull was the first woman nominated to be US President

Victoria Woodhull

This very day, Hillary Clinton will become the first woman nominated to be US President (by a major party). So this is a very appropriate time to remind everyone of her predecessor, Victoria Woodhull. Woodhull's storied career, public service, and style of activism have always been near and dear to VenusPlusX especially because she was a sex futurist of unparalleled accomplishment. Unconventional even among the suffragettes she led, Woodhull was nominated by the Equal Rights Party in 1872. As soon as that happened she was excoriated in the press for colorful past and her belief in free love. Two hundred years ago (and ...

We were hacked!

5838008329_58f3d7713d_z

The cause of sexual freedom was dealt a blow last month when our website was hacked, to pieces. Everything is back together now, and it's full steam ahead, thanks to a new, impregnable fence around our data. Sexual freedom is the bedrock of all freedoms because achievement of this penultimate freedom equates to full, universal personal sovereignty, agency over our bodies, and the opportunity for global peace. Here's our manifesto. Let's get busy. I'm now gearing up for NetrootsConnect and NetrootsNation 2016 in St. Louis, Missouri, July 13-17, and hoping to be able to connect and reconnect with local social and ...

VenusPlusX Is A Conversation

Columbia, seen here in the Statue of Freedom atop the US Capital, is Venusplusx

Dan Massey and I founded VenusPlusX in January 2011. Since then we were often asked, "Which one is X?" to which we answered, jokingly, "it's not polite to ask." We were and are as one in our commitment to make a better world. Our inspiration for the name, VenusPlusX, was a 1960 sci-fi book, Venus Plus X, which is about a gender-neutral future society. Sexual freedom is our theme, specifically A New Age of Sexual Freedom, because it comprises ultimate freedom, the final freedom that will be acknowledged, and the only one that can ensure all preceding freedoms. Full sexual freedom signifies ...

April 21 Update

Flickr/creative commons

I'm returning here after another hiatus but if you have been following me on Facebook and Twitter you can see what we've been up to: fighting to end poverty, racism, and war, while promoting the advancement of sexual freedom, a state of being someday where each person is autonomous and mutually respected, having shed our backwards, primitive attitudes. The book is finally ready for e-book publishing this summer. Long ago, Dan Massey and I uncovered the cosmic connection to love energy, something we have researched and benefited from ever since. This ...

What Do Sex and Gender have to do with Net Neutrality and Climate Change?

Garry Knight Climate March in London September 21, 2014 Flickr/creative commons

I have often been asked why VenusPlusX, and its mission to help bring about to the coming New Age of Sexual Freedom, has been so concerned in the last couple of years with the two issues of Climate Change and Net Neutrality. Some of my friends asked me to explain what these issues have to do sex, after all. Dan and I set out to help change the world. Maybe you did or will, also. Each of us can envision a better future world, free from racism, poverty, and militarism and the constant interference by the overreach ...

Back To The Future

Lance Shields Installation: "Cosmic Kisses Illuminated" slurl.com/secondlife/ North Dolores/202/61/23/ Flickr/creative commons

My blog break turned out to be a bit longer than it should have, sorry. But if you have been following the Twitter/venusplusx feed you know I've been very busy with activists everywhere as we see, finally, an energizing of the forces for good despite the pain of getting to our destination. And it is and will be painful, very painful for a while, make no doubt, but there's a new inter-sectional majority able to co-envision the light at the end of the tunnel. It's not a mirage, it's real. A new day is here. More than at any ...

(También en Español) Let us know what's on your mind. How have you deconstructed class, and what have you learned as it relates to your sexual orientation or gender expression? Counting on what is good

13208598245_b71e3e0fc5_b

By everyone's estimation, last week was bad, in fact we are having many bad weeks piling up for sometime now. But, these horrible events distract us from all the good that is emerging at the same time. It's not Pollyanna-like to see that this cauldron of world-wide strife is now bubbling over for all to see and evaluate and soundly reject.  Universal human rights, environmental protection, and self-determination, and all that they convey, will prevail, not just because of their rightness but because they represent survival. Science-denying, theocratic fundamentalists, here and abroad, simply have no future. Previously I have ...
