A new campaign will be launched this week in Phoenix at Netroots Nation 2015 called #VoteOutTheReligiousRight. It is the culminating action of a month-long expose of the secret religious cult that drives the political religious right’s science-denying and punishing laws against women, the poor, people of color, immigrants, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans folks. No matter what our cause, we now have at hand evidence of ethical and financial violations of dozens of elected and appointed officials. They can be voted out (or for judges like Antonin Scalia, impeached) within a single election cycle, before November 8, 2016, not for their religious views but because of their wholesale misuse of taxpayer dollars.

Throughout this month, I’ve urged concerned citizens to check out two must-read books: The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power (2009) and C Street: The Fundamentalist Threat to American Democracy (2011) by Jeff Sharlet. Thinking these books would be game changers, Sharlet, Rachel Maddow (the only media person at the time who publicized the books’ content), and a bunch of Washington, DC, activists who were involved in street actions against The Family for its direct involvement in fomenting hatred and the infamous “Kill-The-Gays” bill in Uganda, were all surprised there wasn’t a national uproar. These books still can accomplish this, and we have launched this campaign to do just that.

Below is an index of the series which outlines the insidious effect of The Family’s activity throughout every branch and department of our government, meeting every day on Capitol Hill at your expense. It answers why some of our public and elected officials, those loyal first to this dominionist cult, and its political and religious objective of ending our rule of law to make way for (their version of) god’s law, should be voted out or impeached in the next election cycle. It is not because of their religious beliefs, but because of the sordid paper trail they have left behind of ethical and financial misconduct in carrying out The Family’s profiteering, a wholesale theft of millions of taxpayer dollars.

A reminder to our readers: We do not deny any individual, group, church, or cult their religious beliefs. But we do demand that if they are in public service, they abide by our Constitution and all of its provisions. This series on the religious right is a combination of research, intuition, and personal experience, opinion-editorials for the purposes of education (Fair Use).

Join us this week at Netroots Nation and Netroots Connect for the launch of the 50-state campaign to #VoteOutTheReligiousRight.
